We have seen the good with knocking are keepers from 15 to 12, should we look at the GM'ing portion now that makes the GM think do I want my 2 goaltenders and only 8 skaters or risk it and either trade or unprotect is #2 netminder and see how the UFA goes then? This would happen in 2020
This was only Grassers recommendation back in 2017, but have heard a few GM's wondering if we could make it motion to see what the collected group of the greatest GM's want status quo 12 players (max 2 goaltenders) or
11 Skaters & 1 Goalie = 12 or 8 Skaters & 2 Goalies = 10

5. STATS & CATS (fantasy scouting & the old school generation)
a. Pause on future categories, but discuss options that fantrax can provide from nerd fantasy, old generation nhl, combo style
b. Weighted system via some stats/cats
c. Need more fantasy related stats (fun/scouting) creating players more relevant vs. plug into the roster
*STATS HOLD 2017 & 2018 Seasons
combo stat Shot Blocking & Hits (more relevant players vs plug in, Offensive Stats weighted system?
d. New Mandate on Changes (Rosters, Cats/Stats, Protected List, Entry Fee) every 3 years GM’s can submit must meet % Vote to pass. This will stop the convo every year about “change and or the need to change” But common sense will also come into play if something need to be change (yearly)
*We have many options such as only have Dmen with this (new stat/cat) or the Utility spot etc...

These are all ok ideas, tweaks at best. But none address the fact that more often than not it's the same teams near the top of the standings and the same teams near the bottom every year. If everyone's ok with that, so be it, but I would like to see everyone involved and in the hunt as long as possible. There's been fuck all going on on the board, I don't think one trade yet this year, and thats a problem.
My suggestions:
A) Keep it status quo and quit f**k**g around with minor tweaks that change nothing. I'm fine with this idea, as I've done well the past few years under the current structure.
B) Some sort of radical idea that mixes everything up. I tried this with my elite 8 / Sea-bass idea but apparently that's too much effort, and really results in the same end game as the full season roto more or less anyway. Allow me to spitball some random ideas off the top of my head, please add or subtract or tell me they're idiotic as much as you please, let's get a conversation going:
-- Idea 1) Mid-Season Redraft. We all know the build up to the draft is the busiest time of the year, and the draft itself the only time 90% of the league is fully engaged at once. Let's hold a January re-draft. Same rules as always, 12 keepers + prospects (>100GP prior to season) and go reverse standings as they are on that date. No snake draft. No trading picks prior to draft. Give the bottom teams some good talent to try to make a run in the second half. Would bring a whole new dynamic in January - teams trying to move players they can't protect, but does that hurt you today? Weaker teams trying to capitalize and land 2 for 1 deals.... I dunno.
---Idea 2) Euro-Style Tiered Leagues. Split the league into the Elite League and the 2nd Division. Top 8 compete in the top league. Bottom 6-8 (if we expand) compete in the 2nd division. Top 2 teams in SFHL2 advance to the Elite League next year, bottom 2 in the Elite League are relegated. Entry AND UFA draft are both non-snake, with the winner of the 2nd division getting top pick in both drafts. Followed by the 2nd place team in the 2nd division and so on, then 8th place in Elite League, 7th in Elite League in reverse order till the champion picks last. Teams can make trades between divisions, which brings another element to the game. Cash prizes can be split so 2nd division champs win some $$.
---Idea 3) I dunno... combine both my other ideas? Relegate the 7th and 8th place elite teams mid-season at the re-draft..?
As I said, all this is top of the head spitballing. Bottom line - either don't waste time ad energy with minor tweaks, or go full remix and try something crazy to keep everyone into It all. Thoughts?

One idea to try to improve participation and communication.
Archive this site for reference purposes and let’s move in to 2018. I know a lot of us find the site confusing and bulky. No offence intended at all to you Commish. You’ve done an awesome job on it. I’m just suggesting we all get on a communication app that better uses quick messaging, discussion, trash talk, pictures, gifs, etc. I’m betting there’s only a handful of GMs that have the notifications set up on this site... which notifies your email of a message. We can do better.
Anyways, I haven’t had any messages responded to since the season started. Discussion is dead on the board.
A lot of leagues are using Apps like GroupMe. I think it’s a small change that could help out a bit.

I have been in the league since day one and I think Virgo and the other fat cats of the leagues have done a great job to keep things going and keep everyone interested from top to bottom.
I think the UFA bottom to top idea that is being rolled out is great for those at the bottom but to Rack's point of seeing a lot of the same guys at the bottom and how to fix it.
First and foremost, some of the teams are at the bottom due to their roster decsions (trades, who they have kept) so we cant help them there. But I think 2 things we can consider are:
1) Off season trade cap: Every off season the top 3 teams after going all in recuperate as many assets they can with players they cant keep but getting picks back for them and nothing really changes. I think if we look a 2 or 3 trades per off season.
2) Lower keeper numbers - I know we just lowered them recently but I really think lowering them to about either 8 or 10 will really make a difference, create a more exciting UFA draft, allow good plethora of talent to be there to allow the lower teams to snag when we move to the snake draft.The only negative is it make the draft day longer...
Those are my 2 cents..

I agree full heartily that we need to find something to spice it up in the half-way point & winter months. Yes we tired with Racks H2H Playoffs I understand both the pros & cons to it...I believe the new additions (the votes) that they more or less effect offseason & draft day, which yes can help throughout the season. But I feel we need to get something in the middle to EXCITE us ALL !! 1. Trades/Player Movement Chit Chat a. building your roster/lineup should be fun 2. Get us off the Lazy Boy & have some of the excitement we get in the off-season-draft "i.e the rush of fantasy hockey" 3. Keep it fun & interesting Yes Cam we can setup some type of private league msg via one of the apps (so guys can get it on there phones vs looking at the computer every 3rd day) we can keep the board for backup and resource centre for drafts/rules etc I know i'm kinda off in maple leaf dream land  fantasy hockey 82 games Oct-April is harder (that what she said) then say H2H football what i'm getting at is making as rack noted go all Stone Cold Steve Austin or keep finding some tweaks like Hulk Hogan does ... a) Week High = Cash Prize for the months of Jan/Feb b) half way point break into two divisions (top pool goes for $$$ and bottom pool goes for 1st overall) c) break the season into 2 seasons with smaller active rosters and have Top 3 win money in each of those seasons d) you have to pick 3 players at start of the season (keepers) and halfway point they become (all or 1) FAs we do live auction for those players ...... I will do a live vid to go in more detail soon... |
