2018 Fall Draft Review
ENTRY DRAFT - we look at each team, what they drafted and whats the upside (per SFHL stats-cats) of those players. We then rank the teams (14) on who had the best drafted players that can help in the upcoming season as well included who has the best potential 3yrs down the road. Enjoy & have a good laugh its Fantasy Fun...UFA notes below
1. SEATTLE
E.Bouchard 1/5, N.Dobson 1/11, D.Sikura 1/12, N.Hague 3/36, J. Bernard-Docker 4/46, N.Pionk 5/60
Kyle has once again done is research as well his liking of having lots of entry picks. 5 out of 6 are d-men, which is starting show you need ELC on your roster to stay close to the top vs those making 4-6Mill. My fav pick is Dobson think Werenski (maybe more NHL then SFHL but still this guy has some jam). Bouchard is your fantasy D-men PTS + additional stats, Sikura looks to be a fit in the Top 6, Filling out N.Hague could be Sheldon Souray PPP + SHOTS + Goals = YES PLEASE....Pionk will help fill out the 3rd pairing.
2. PENS
A.Svechnikov 1/1, B.Hayton 1/15, V.Kamenev 2/25, I.Lundestrom 3/30, R.Mcleod 4/50, J.Siegenthaler 5/58
Mark surprised the draft floor last sunday (i.e ppl at roaches) with his selection first overall. The guy will play most likely this season, plays on the wing and should be a 70-80 pt player he passed on all-around fantasy Dmen Dahlin. But give Mark credit if Svechnikov can be 50pt player in his ELC then graduate to 80pts ppl wouldnt be talking about who went first overall in 2018. The Kamenev pick we like as this guy can shoot up to 2nd line centre and be in the 40pt range, Mcleod has the speed to score, and Hayton good be a good 2Way pivot and someone who might see action sooner rather then later...Mark did well with all 6 picks, most outside advisors had Lundestrom & Siegenthaler C+ rating and everyone else higher.
3. CHI-HAWKS
Dahlen 1/3, Jokikaru 2/17, R.Hintz 2/19, J.A Dolan 2/26, D.Gambrell 2/27, A.Eriksson 4/56
We actually had some debate on this position for the hawks, as Dahlen on his own = pay day, great pickup at the number 3 spot. think V.Hedman = fantasy Dmen we all want...I like the next pick (one cause i didnt know he was available) This guy has the skill to be a good pt producer on the backend 35-40 range...the next few picks had some scratching there heads as some felt these players couldve been selected in later rounds...but as we know the Hawks they see certain guy they value they pounce nothing wrong with that. ...Hintz think PWR Fwd Goals/PIms, Dolan mass pts in WHL not sure if it relates to the pro game but I have been wrong from time to time, think this guy just got NHL traded, he could do some spot duty in the show this season..next pick i had to ask Dobber what he thought as this player wasnt on are list Mr. A.Eriksson "Modern power forward with big frame and a good amount of offensive talent. Needs to work on his discipline". The Dahlen selection was key here
4. BLUES
A.Boqvist 1/10, V.Kravtsov 2/21, T.Dellandrea 2/24, G.Denisenko 3/32, J.Berggren 4/45, J.O'Brien 4/48, S.Perunovich 4/54, B.McLaughlin 4/57
Hendu was happy boy at the draft, the Boqvist, Kratsov, and Denisenko picks have high level impact players written all over them. Watch out for Perunovich who could be a PP QB. 8 picks helps the blues push to the 4th overall rank...Hendu likes to go KHL or Europe and has payed off in previous drafts. We aren't high on Dellandrea but many have this guy playing in the 40pt range. But he could have the next Duncan Keith in Boqvist for the next decade!
5. BUFFALO
Tkachuk 1/4, J.Kotkaniemi 1/14, Bertuzzi 2/23, Nedelijkovic 3/1*
Guess who's back, back again...The Swat Sabres got some extra picks (and the last one being 2019 Entry which he's traded away already). Tkachuk is suppose to be better then his old man and big brother so PTS/PIM and this could happen right away so even for a team that we fig will be in the bottom this has good overall potential. Kotkaniemi will take time 2-3 yrs but could be a solid pick to finish up the first round. Bertuzzi can play now, but whats is ceiling 40pts or can he be that 50pt guy? Nedelikovic Buf was hard on this guy feeling he's the future goaltender, goalies are always hard to read specially in fantasy land but he could get some action this year and be backing up following year which really only helps swat as he works his way up the standings.
6. SJS
F.Zedina 1/2, J.Veleno 2/16, M.Mamin 3/42, R.Sandin 4/53, M.Bunting 5/63
Some where asking is Ken a Wings Fan?? The question is still out there but first two selections where good picks, we feel Zedina is a Hossa type player and Veleno could play spot duty in the #2-3 Centre position in time, Mamin is a wild card, Sandin could be good spot duty in due time...Bunting...who ? A hard working winger who models his game after Brad Marchand, he’s had the pest part down now the offense is starting to show. Could be a solid bottom six winger in the NHL soon...not sure if that relates to fantasy..Zadina helps this ranking as he's elite player
7.JETS
Q.Hughes 1/6, R.Kupari 3/37, C.Timmins 3/38
Jets get a push in the right direction with Hughes as he's going to be a force and soon...Kupari could be the next Aho and Timmins figs to add some value as fantasy d-men making ELC money. Hughes is a A level prospect, Timmins could see some action in the next year or two..
8. VEGAS
R.Donato 1/7, V.Ejdsell 3/40
Both players should be seeing action this season, Donato looks to be a lock for 40 pts and Ejdsell could be a decent 3rd liner. Vegas has a good team and a GM that wants to make changes as we saw this summer. He also thought it wise to hire coaching staff so expect vegas to have a lineup ready for every night which wasnt always the case prior...
8. VANCITY
S.Niku 1/13, A.Fox 3/31, R.Merkley 3/34, D.Bokk 4/47, K.Miller 4/51
Nope its not a typo Vancity and Vegas tied 8th...I think what we had trouble with his first overall pick..way to early...the rest of his picks 3 dmen and a skilled fwd raise his profile.....Fox & Merkley are both players that could really come in strong 40pt seasons or only ever get a cup of tea in the show...Bokk is a skilled high flying forward that can be penciled in 60+ pt potential range....Miller looks like a fantasy cat machine...Niku hmmm does he play this season ? is he more then a flash in a pan or is Cam steering this team over a hill and falling off and not able to continue with the main course meal...? time will tell, and old wounds heal my friend.
9. HABS
Wahlstron 1/8, N.Beaudin 4/49, V.Mete 5/64
Habs get a true sniper in Wahlstron at 8th overall, Beaudin is the habs scouting staff beard & butter who has speed, can pass and shoot and thinks the game to be a solid Off-D-Men...Mete hopes to just get some pts on the back end to keep the Habs up the Standings.
10. LEAFS
S.Girard 1/9, J.Farabee 2/20, T.Smith 3/35, L.Foudy 3/39, S.Aho 3/41, M.Kaut 4/44, BO. Griouix 4/52
Girard helps now so might Aho...Farabee could be a JVR/sniper and Ty Smith think this is a good pick (in the nhl forsure) and I have been told this guy should add the pt total 35ish, good + player...I like Kaut think Hejduck not sure if Foudy has the natural talents to be true sniper in the SFHL.
11. WINGS
A.Thomas 4/55, F.Hronek 5/65, C.Point 5/62
When you win your going to have less picks and lower picks..Wings still mange 3 and I like all 3 of them...Thomas could be the sleeper pick of the draft at 55th..Hronek has some off talents on the back end...and the one guy that might be a good prospect is Point B level and should be something in the future.
12. PHILLY
J.Forsbacka-Karlsson 3/33, B.Guhle 5/59
Did we miss some picks, the intern said no so here we go...smart pick up in JFK guy could be a decent pt procedure, looks to be ready for next year...same time as flyers make a push ? off-dmen Guhle should be on the opening day roster and can get the pts and goals.
13. OILERS
2/28 B.Katchouk, D.Malgin 3/43, W.Foegele 5/61
He misses the draft but still gets a solid prospect or two..Foegele could be a 30pt player with additional stats at low salary.
14. those no longer part of the SFHL
UFA we will look at pick by pick (sleepers/highlights) on what we feel will help this season....Coming Soon
