14 Thoughts from the man that brought you the SFHL
November 2017
1. As we near the USA Thanksgiving we see Wings, Seattle and Oilers holding the top 3. Not far behind is the Blues then
a little drop off with Vancity in the 5th spot. After that 6-14th seems to change every couple of days. I have chatted with some GM"s and the trade market is very quite not many return phone calls. But one must think Teams & those GM's will have a better idea in the next couple of weeks on which direction they are going as well what upgrades they need to get to there goals. Elite 8, Top 3!?
2. I really thought Philly was a team on the rise, you can look at how they started with 2 goalies that are no longer with the big club. Hopefully those moves will help this team get back, as I had this team getting into the elite 8 playoffs. I talked to a few pro-scouts and they said the Flyers didnt realize how many goaltenders where going to be on the UFA Market, as they might of take a different approach say let those two started in Mason and Raanta go UFA and worst case re-sign them if they couldnt attract anyone new.
3. Does NEW Sharks GM Ken take a slow & soft approach this year? Does he get down the leagues in and outs then start making the moves to see some light for next season? He's got the building blocks in Matthews, Kuznetsov, Ekman-Larsson and Jones in net.
4. Kucherov, Stamkos and Kessel lead the way in the league rankings thus far. How much does Nikita Kucherov get next year the guy can score does he get more then Stamkos, does his cap hit get close to 9.5M? Cap Hits are starting to raise as we see over 30 players making 7M or more...yikes there will be unfortunately good players not signed on in the SFHL (see Kopitar). Does this league create some type of mid-season cap cut on one player? who knows its not going to happen anytime soon...
5. When does Connor Hellebuyck get called up? Wings Management has some pretty good options as Darling is on 2 Way they also have injured Subban & great blue-chipper in IIya Sorokin, as well they got Talbot on a good 1 way contract. I heard someone the other day they should move Talbot to add elite winger? hmmm interesting
6. Buffalo and Jets where trade partners twice the past 2 wks, switching up the net position. That Swat and the Sabres have made 5 trades involving goaltenders states a lot that he wasnt overly happy what he saw in the off-season and the start of the year.
7. It was a month ago but everyone was available on the pens roster, wonder if thats still the case? Do the Pens need to get younger in there prime positions and cap hits? Do we see Mark and Company re-tool this season to make a better push for next season ? Its still early and Lundqvist looks like he's got his magic back but when does grizzy vet Getzlaf come back and his he still 70 pt man?
8. As we get closer to December that my friends means H2H will be starting up. It doesn't start till January but teams will have to start looking at Elite 8 or bottom 6 in which direction they want...shouldnt they want Elite 8, play for some coin?
9. Oct 7th 2017 do you know what that date means? Well some prob have a good guess its the last time anyone saw GM Goater.
10. Couple D-men struggling in Krug, Keith and Provorov ranked 75, 76, 80th...not many ppl saw those three struggling (maybe keith with all his mileage and age) but Krug & Provorov look to start adding to there stat line as they cant be that bad, right?
11. Player to remember is Alexander Kerfoot, no scouts saw this guy coming into the league this season. Does he go first round next fall
12. Heard a Rumour that the Oilers are sending a big name to scout the east around the x-mas time and kids its not jolly st nick.
13. I'm excited to see how playoffs work this season as they are moved up closer. It allows some teams to keep playing and others upgrading there offence for a push for the top 3. Does this make more trades or less? I still think teams in the bottom will deal players with bigger impact to those running for 8th position as well those wanting the Top 3. The bottom boys still go in lottery for the first overall so its never a given
