SFHL ENTRY DRAFT REVIEW 2017
grades are based on 1-3 yr potential of player(s) ability to make impact in the SFHL
BUF B-
GM Swat started off Lehkonen who will give him some secondary scoring at the 11th overall position. Will Butcher looks to have impact very soon in the SFHL and will add some offensive from the back end. The Addition of Bjork who was in the college circuit might pay off in terms of serviceable player and low salary in the show. All these players have in common is they are either playing in the nhl or will be later this season. This grade gets bumped up to B if Lehkonen can produce 20 goals and Butcher see's some action the next year or so.
*D - Does he have No.1 in Allen some say yes others are not so sure, Jake should give Buffalo that No.1 they have been seeking since taking over the defunk Yotes. He grabbed him at the number 2 spot, next he took (17) V.Trochek who is seen as a good 2nd liner that can put in 50pts
CHI B+
La Melcher took Nolan Patrick with the 3rd overall pick. He looks to see some action at least the start of the season and whom many say will be a good 50 pt player with best case scenario Eric Staal type player. Hopefully its not another Jack Campbell, going early in the 2nd round is Jake Oettinger who has great size and many see as a good No.1 - NHL Starter but you'll have to wait for awhile. I like this next pick getting Josh Norris who looks to be a good 2nd liner in the long term and one of those players that could hit 30 goals. Not sure if this guy will make impact in the SFHL (I have been wrong before, well maybe once or twice) Z.Laurzon to me is a good NHL prospect but C grade at best here as he's Defensive Dmen (he won that award in the Q last yr)
*D maybe it was not enough cap or too many wingers but Chi-Town went with Dmen grabbing N.Hanifin 5th overall I do like this player he's a good 30 pt player and did taking Voracek huge cap hit and not sure if he's much better then 60 pt player (which is good but for the money he needs to add some secondary stats)
DET C
Rack goes for UFA picks not so much for the entry ones so he got to eat lots of wings and drink some beers...plus scout for the UFA has he had all the picks in round 1. 57th overall A.Heponiemi looks to be a decent prospect whom is a playmaker but needs to add some muscle mass maybe using the GM's diet regiment may help. Rack is in win mode we should all be, trying to get top 3 or elite 8 playoffs, as such Wings didnt have many picks but the GM did a great job in the UFA Draft.
*D This guy did you a workout plan over the summer with 10th Bjorkstand was taken whom i feel is 20 goal scorer but doesn't hurt you on the cap hit, same goes with Labanc who could play some minutes on the 4th line and add a stat or two if playing.
EDM C+
The man the runs 3 Franchises is next, he adds a goal scorer in Taylor Raddysh will that relate to the NHL one doesn't know if he can get extra step or two in his skating this guy could be a light-mood of Mark Stone. Zach Senyshyn is fast & slick and looks to add scoring pitch on the right side we could see this guy later this season. K.Vesalainen could be a nice pickup in Alex Killorn body type goals and some pims. Raddysh is a make or break player in that he'll hit 20 goals or fringe player...Grass adds some talent but no one looks to be making impact this season.
* some cap but nice pickup at centre with Schenn pts/pim player and Namestinkov who could get his point total in the 40's
HFD A
First off congrats to the goat on the birth of his 1st child! Lucky man had 1st overall and took 60pt Nico Hischier, he will play and get 40pts this season but potential is there for more in the coming years. Maybe could've got this guy in 3rd round but Jake Dotchin goes 13th he's got some offensive upside which is huge in this league and of course low cap hit, look for this guy to be Top4 in Hartford very soon...next up Lias Andersson looks to be guy that can maybe step in and produce secondary stats, I have him in the 40-50 pt range. Heres a fantasy pick up in Martin Necas could be 60 pt guy might take a few years but people love this kid. My good golf buddy Robert Thomas london knight is a 2way player that has some secondary scoring in him, feel he's at least 2 years away, Ryan Poehling looks to ne 3rd liner with some secondary stats to come. Urho Vaakanainen looks to be a good mobile Dmen...lots of picks for the Whalers one wasnt sure if they might of moved a few to get more establish players...but he did add many B+ prospect talents.
*D get Sid the Kid 1st overall...whats your cap hit son !? and then gets a good D prospect in Montour
MTL B-
Who doesn't like the Habs GM 9 yr plan, really who doesn't? I felt Virgo did a great job, first nabbing a good centre men in Nick Suzuki and then adding small skilled pivot in Eeli Tolvanen. Habs added to there depth pool in the goaltenders taking U.P Luukonen big frame Fin goalie who will take some time but theres potential for something good here. Hudon needs to be in the show and the guy can score, J.Valimark and F.Westerlund are viragos bread and butter picks as both are d-men with off, mobile and puck moving talents. All players are at least 2-3 yrs away and goalies are even longer specially in there draft class 5yrs some are.
*D Silverberg can score and Bennett looks to be better both players should help habs stay at the top.
PHI A-
Fly Time here Cale Makar is a OFF-Dmen 60pts, but his couple years away from the show in which year 1 gets in the 25-30pt range great pickup at #5. Owen Tippet is a goal scorer some issues but its hard to buy goals and this guy looks to be a buyer in couple years, say 25 goal scorer. Nic Roy this guy has jumped up and people are taking notice could be ready soon. Jordan Kyrou he's fast and can score at the OHL level can that transate into SFHL Mur thinks so...could be one of those checkers with speed in the NHL. Frost is a good pick up in the 5th round adds some team depth. Murman grabs two players that have A level talent and another one thats moving up in Roy
*D- great grab in Theodore some dont think he's the cats meow but i feel he's got the dogs bark. Goal scorer alert Flying high in Toffoli Mur looks like he wants elite 8 and i feel he can get there. Good draft and adds some assets and depth in the development system.
PIT B
He's got the beat, Mark has been a good draft day scout finding some gems here and there...can he get back to the top .....Miro Heiskanen is a great d pick up who i feel could get that 40-50 pt range which is hard to come by on the back end. Djoos looks like a good depth/roster player pickup with low cap hit and should see some games and grab some minutes to help on the back end for the pens. Think this guy is a stud Jacob Larsson can play at the NHL level and produce it will be 20 pts this year but moving forward could hit the 35+ range. F.Chytil red flags but he could be a steal at 41 and D.ORegan looks to be a top 9 forward that should get some ice time later in the season. Lots of picks for Marko ...Anthony Cirelli can put the goals in I feel he's more of a checker in the NHL, Kostin looks to be a good pickup at 53 who could step in a year or so. Mark had a good game plan and has some players that are 1.5 years away hitting the ice in the show...
*D - Zuccarello 45pt guy not bad at 14th, and getting 2way E.Staal was nice move and should help fill the roster for the Pens as they make there march up the standings this season.
SJS C+
The new guy Ken, made some moves and then sat back and did a good job in his first draft. Sharks have decent team and should fight for the last playoff spot in the Elite 8. M.Rasmussen looks to be a good pickup shows 2nd line potential in 40 pt range, Carlo is a great pickup that will help the D this season and get additional PIMS, another nhler in Troy Stecher he's at best No.5 dmen but you need 6 so this guy is low cap and can maybe add 30 pts.
*D - nice pick up for Kuz and wasnt sure about the 15th overall in K.Miller but if he can produce those pims in the 70 range good on this pick.
SEA A
So Rack does the UFA first rounds and Kyle hits the Entry (this guy has a eye for talent and likes to move players & create "the trades"
Kaprizov is in the NHL next year and could get rookie of the year thats how good this small russian forward is..back to back he takes a good young pwr fwd in Cody Glass then finishes the 1st round with soon to be nhler K.Yamamoto skilled and someone who can produce. Next additional help on the back end with P.Myers, long term in Troy Terry was next at 38th to me he's fringe nhler (but ahl time may give him that push) Jason Robetson is another long-term prospect that can be used for trade bait later this season. Next two he gets big and tough (PIMS and maybe one day Hits) in Ratcliff and Foote good players and when they hit the show low cap hits. Kyle has shown time after time he's not too be messed with in the first round of the entry...I think he's building the blocks to reach top 3 very soon.
*D Klefbom & keider not bad players to add with no assets being lost...look out for Seattle
STL B-
Draft King & Shoreline Beacon Draft Wizard is what they call him in the fantasy arm-chair circles. Hendu started with (9)Elias Pettersson whom most see as the 60 pt player in time. Goalie Linus Soderstrom looks like a gem that gets glowing and should be over in 2 years time. Denis Smirnov was a very late pick in the NHL & 55th SFHL, long term but has goal scorer written all over him...
*D winner getting Max Pac 6th overall and Doughty to the back end will make this team harder to be and again someone who's going to push for the top 3 this season.
TOR B-
Out on the pitch kooch shows his kick that nabs #2 Jake Guentzel 60pt potential? Off Dmen Lijegren could be playing 3years from now and someone who shows good B+ talent. John Hayden plays this year this is a good pickup...Jonah Gadjovich OS dmen will be longer term prospect. Taking Guenztel gets him the grade
*D Quick and Shultz nice pick ups, one hopes Quick can get back to that No.1 goaltender and Shultz needs to show he can still produce with a big contract
WPG A-
They call him the Coach, also he's related to Digger (first time didnt show up too draft)Roaches way is try to win each year, make the moves find those players and push for the top and have fun. 4th overall Casey Mittelstadt 60pt player in the making, 2 years away from the nhl...gets a goal scorer that cant skate the best but should find a spot soon in Gabriel Vilardi & couple picks after gets OFF-Dmen some say No2-3 in the draft for Defensivemen Erik Brannstrom. Future Depth pick up in Goalie M.Dipietro from the Windsor team
*D nice pickup and where roach thought he might fall in 8th pick Provonov and old man Keith who should still top 50 pts
VAN C
only makes trades on the back 9, CamVan isn't so sure of his luck this year, he might be out of the elite 8...he loves Jordan Greenway we think he's a good player but does he bring PIMS and PTs to the show? and next back to back was A. Neilsen has some swagger but 3yrs away prospect maybe No.4-5 dmen in time...Blake Speers should see some action Top 9? maybe expect 20-25pts this season. Lot of players that we needed to use Hockey Database, Adam Brooks is centre men that is 1-2 yrs away with Top 9, Bratt London Knight (dont remember seeing him last year) who might make show and help on the wing,I dont know half of these players this grade will increase if some of those guys can make impact next 2 years
*D good on cam getting Schnieder he will have a bounce back year (11th wow) and get those vezina numbers in line going forward. C.Fisher is a good young prospect that can start showing that size and speed in the show and Cam hopes can make his team a little harder to play against this year.
grades are based on 1-3 yr potential of player(s) ability to make impact in the SFHL
