Boy, oh boy the leafs pull off another big trade this time they traded there super star Evgeni Malkin to the Avs in a 5 player trade with picks going across the board for both teams. One must be thinking what sid the kid is saying after being trade just a week ago from wings. The leafs are rebuilding that much can be said with so many trades being pulled in the past week so you don't have to be Brian Burke to see that.
In this trade the leafs did get some great young roster players in mold of centremen Travis Zajac and David Bolland. Plus getting a grinder type player in Kyle Brodziak. Leafs brain trust not liking there overall depth in terms of prospects aquire an entry pick in 2010 and picking up a 1st rounder in the UFA draft which could result in a 1st overall since its on a lottery term. That would be 2 years in a row in getting that pick for the leafs. But this reporter would think they wouldn't want the same result they had this year.
Colorado is making a big push to win the SFHL Cup two years in a row. They aquire a great super star in Malkin who at .984 is a bargin but jumps up to 8.7 next season. Also part of the package was Eric Perrin and a second round UFA pick in 09. This just goes to show you drafting good young players in both the entry and ufa drafts will help you down the road. That right there has helped the Avs stay near the top this season.
