Commish, are we allowed to just trade free agent signings as they are? I'd consider them as much of an asset as a draft pick... I like the creativity in this trade but in the future can we trade say 1 free agent signing for a player? It seems to me like its pretty much the equivalent of in the nhl trading a player for cash.

What your saying is that teams would only be allowed to sign a free agent then trade him right away only once? I think that might be not a bad rule. since Hartford didn't have to clear cap or a roster spot for Todd White. Had he cleared the roster spot & cap I have no problem if he does trade like that. But I think Rack you make a good point.

Well thats not exactly what I meant but you have a valid point too... in order to sign a FA you must make room for him, and physically add him to the roster before being allowed to trade him. I didn't realize this wasn't done here. I don't think this should be allowed to happen again, unless the FA is first put onto the active roster of the team that signs him. What I meant, was that since we have a limited # of signings, I feel that they are an asset, as much as a draft pick or current player is. We can trade picks and players, should we also be allowed to trade one of our unused FA signings? ie. Wings have all 5 FA signings available, Habs have used all of theirs and have none available. Wings want Teows from Habs. Can the Wings trade one of their 5 FA signing rights for Teows to the Habs? Habs then can use this extra signing at a time of their choice this season. Wings will have 4 remaining FA signings available.... make sense?

yah that's not a bad idea dan, regarding trading FA picks straight up (no sign and trade) it is still kinda like a sign and trade but there is no player involved, and plus that team ie The Habs may not use that free agent signing until later in the season or at the deadline..good point and second yah teams need to clear a roster spot and salary before signing a player ,which didn't happen here
