The Pittsburgh Penguins and Hartford Whalers have once again come together to make another trade.
The Penguins are trading goaltender Ryan Miller and D-man Andres Lilja to Hartford and in return receieve goalie Vesa Toskala (Hartford eats 600K of the 4 million dollar contract) , D-man Kimmo Timmonen (Hartford eats all of the salary) and a 1st round entry pick in 09
Whalers new cap hit: 54. 564 M Penguins new cap hit: 55.927M
this is pending league approval

Pens & Whalers do business.
Pens are getting Vesa Toskala @ 3.4M (600k is being payed by the whalers) this move seems to replace Miller one being on the IR and second Miller makes 6.250M next season which was to rich for GM Beaton next season with carry Luongo at 6.750 That total being 13M for two goalies. They also get Kimmo Timmonen who will help on the PPP and at no cost. Pens did get some help to improve there depth in goal by acquiring Hartfords 1st round in 09.
Hartford must hope that Miller who they just got from the Pens will work out better then some of there other goalies the past couple of seasons. They also got journyman Andres Lilja to fill a d spot. It looks like that will be the asking price for #1 or #1a/b . since the whalers also ate all of Timmonen's 6.333 salary and took on 600k from Toskala's contract.

affirmative rack. if both sides agree on only .500 going then we can sign off on the deal going through. same would go for timmonen would it not? virgs, correct me if i am wrong here, but goat can only eat .500 of toskala and 6 of timmonen since the are not in .500k increments

www.freewebs.com/sfhl/rulebook.htmD:5) Brian Burke Salary Rule. Teams are allowed to allocate portions of increments of 500k of a player’s salary. This rule will only apply during the periods of the start of the season to the SFHL Trade Deadline. When trading away salary, players salaries will always be the same from the start of the season. In reference to two-way contracts. ------------------------ that being said I missed that (sorry) Hartford will only eat 500K of Toskala Pens Hit will be for Toskala: 3.5M not 3.4M BUT the TIMMONEN is find a team can eat the whole salary (THIS SEASON ONLY)

I don't think you can eat the whole salary here. We still have to abide by the rule, of 500k increments. If a guy has a round number salary, then all can be eaten. But if its not in 500k increments, that shouldn't happen.

I FUCKED-UP/ i didn't word it correctly by that I apologize in that when teams were trading salary with the player I intended by the team would be hit for proportions of 500k. But never placing in the wording that both teams had to take salary I FUCKED UP

Well if Timmonen's That's how it's worded, that the team trading the player can take on salary in 500k increments. In this case, the closest that we can get to what the trading teams wanted is for Hartford to take on 6.0m and Pittsburgh to pay the remaining 333k. Also, for Toskala, you could round the 600k down to 500k. My personal suggestion would be for the Whalers to take 6M of Timmonen and 1M of Toskala, for a total of 7M. As they have worded in their trade, Hartford would be taking on a total of 6.933 anyway, so this is a pretty fair change that fits in the rules.

yah sounds good Dan..sorry about the mix up, the wording is the fucked up part of it. I twas something quick that I did at the start of the season....But aleast there is a better rule for next season for salary trading that the whole league will see first hand hopefully in the coming days with other adjustments & things to vote on

so with the brian burke rule in effect.. the whalers and penguins have changed their deal around a little, The whalers will now be eating 1 Mill of Toskala's 4 mill salary.
pens cap hit: 56.662
after trade, Whalers send Miller to the IR and call up Varmalanov ( 2 way/850K) 1st time and take Kaberle off the IR (3.187M) and send Seidenberg (1.2M) to the minors.
Goater confirm seidenberg is a 2 way contract.
whalers cap hit: 55.318M
