In response to Mikes PFSHL, allow me to present the RPSFHL. Just a few minor tweaks will allow us to really mimic the true value of players in a team setting. 23 man roster. Starting lineup:3C 3RW 3LW 2F 1GOON 6D 1G 3 Bench Skaters 1 Bench Goalie Stats accumulated by all Skaters (non-Goon)G (Dman G's worth 2) A Special Teams Points (PPP + SHP) SHGAA (Team's Shorthanded GAA while player is on the ice) HITS FIGHTS (Goons do contribute to Fights) Stats accumulated by F's only (non-Goon)Faceoff % Shooting % Shootout G Stats accumulated by D only (non-goon)Blocked Shots GAA (Team's GAA while player is on the ice) Stats accumulated by Goons onlyPIM PIM Drawn Stats accumulated by GW SVP SO Shootout SVP Simplified Stat TableF | D | GOON/PEST | G | G | G (2) | | W | A | A | | SVP | STP | STP | | SO | SHGAA | SHGAA | | SHOOTOUT SV% | HITS | HITS | | | FIGHTS | FIGHTS | FIGHTS | | | | | | FO% | | | | S% | | | | SHOOTOUT G | | | | | BLOCKS | | | | GAA | | | | | PIM | | | | PIM DRAWN | |
This addresses Offense (G, A, PPP, S%, Shootout G), Defense (SHGAA, FO%, Blocks, GAA) and Toughness (Hits, Fights, PIM, PIM Drawn). Offense is valued slightly higher than Defense, and Toughness is a factor but not overwhelming (Hits and Fights the only toughness stats accumulated by everyone). It recognizes the value of a Goon or Agitator on the roster as well. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Again, it's really very minor adjustments to our current setup. You'd barely notice the difference. Let's vote on it. *Updated: PPP changed to STP (Special Teams Pts - PPP + SHP) as per Kooch's demands*

so, short handed points (SHP) has been taken out?? i think rewarding players who get SHPs needs to still be included... not sure i like the SHGAA and defencemen GAA, but its something to consider... i think i need to understand more how it will look if this is a possibility, hahaha... just seems confusing at first glance
another good option...

Come on Kooch, this is obviously not a possibility. Just playing around with ideas. The Commish "Locked" Shutouts into our stats after 5 guys said they wouldn't mind dropping it, and one guy said he likes it... so I think getting 'PIM Drawn' through the iron gate at the Commish office is a bit of a reach. I just wanted to come up with a way to really assess a player's true value to a team, and as a penalty killer, his job is to prevent SHG, not score them. Add to the fact that SHP is such a rare stat, it is incredibly inflated in the SFHL (1st place is about 18SHP). In a roto league where all categories are equal, 1 SHP is similar value to almost 20G. You have a 60G scorer, I have a guy who got 3 SH assists, and we get the same overall points. I see far higher value in a guy who consistently kills penalties all game & season long. Perhaps we can change PPP to Special Teams Pts, to include SHP but not ridiculously overvalue them. Good idea Kooch, let's do that. I thought the simplified table would simplify things? Clear as mud! Each Position contributes to certain stats. Most overlap, but then there's specialty stats for F (3), D (2) and Goons (2). That's all. No point tracking FO% for Dmen etc. Again, this clearly not an actual option for the SFHL, I don't even know if some of the stats I've used are tracked anywhere. Just opening up a discussion, since we're in the dog days of August!

I like to remind Commish Stalin that this league is not a dictatorship and we have article 1.B) in the rule book that deals with Rule Changes…
1.B. GENERAL MANAGER'S DUTIES 1) When the season begins all rules & regulations will not change only if it's deemed necessary by League Office, a vote of 75% (Hockey Ops Department) is needed to pass an in-season rule change 2)Rule Changes - Draft GM’s can submit new proposals for rule adjustments or addition. To pass any rule or regulation a vote of greater then 60% must be met. Rule changes must be voted on prior to the Fall Draft to be in acted for the following season.

Gotta love the dog days of August!
In my opinion stat categories shouldn't be voted on independently... They work best as a cohesive unit. I think at the draft we need to vote on complete stat units. To have your unit voted on, it needs to be supported by another GM. GMs are only allowed to support one system being put to vote. Say we get 5 proposals... We then do a series of voting. Vote one, you can vote on 2 proposals. Then the top 3 proposals move on to round 2. Then we vote again, this time you get one vote. Top 2 proposals move to the final round. Then we vote again... Top proposal wins. I know it seems complicated, but I use the system all the time with a class of 13 year olds and it takes 15 minutes.
Seems to me like the best way to go about this... There's just too many suggestions out there with certain stats to get rid of and others to replace with.
Honestly, if we had a group of proposals to vote on at the draft, it would take 15 minutes to put the issue to bed in the most democratic manner.

Makes sense to me. Hopefully guys will care enough to do the voting process properly if we go this direction.

"0nly if it's deemed necessary by League Office, a vote of 75% (Hockey Ops Department) is needed to pass an in-season rule change"

Get you head out of your ass and read the whole rule. As commish, you probably already know your #1 job is "overseeing" that all rule and regulations are followed. Watch it commish or you will be overthrown quicker than King James the II during the Glorious Revolution.

According to 1.B.2 all new rules need 60% GM approval to pass, seeing this is not an in-season change. So, the way I read that is that we can go about it 2 ways.
1. We first vote on if there needs to be a change in stat categories. If 60% agree there does, we then do the voting process for the new stat group. Or,
2. We first vote on the potential new stat groups until 1 remains, then put it to a final vote. The final vote asking GMs if they would prefer the old stat group or the new stat group that was voted most popular. If 60% like the new option, it's passed.
Commish can you clarify?

question is really we have to much time on are hands, yes?
here is the commish reasoning for some new updated cats/stats topic.
I felt there was a need to change up a few things in are league, that being first the goalie situation. That are league relies to much on this cat, and felt it was time to go in a different direction. Having teams still carry 2 goalies, but only having one play per night. As Commish I made the decision that this was coming in without a vote that the vote be to determine the timeframe be it in 1yr or 2 years. To give GM's/Scouts/Team notification of the new rule. I feel that we all wanted something different with the goalies, but this is the best option moving forward.
Next was adding a new stat/cat to the skaters, one that can be scouted with. To get a slightly different look for are rosters and league. Again this was the COMMISH making the decision to add the stat with no vote. But allowing the gms of the league to pick either Shot Blocking or Hits.
Mr.Roach and Co. have done a great job in looking at other stats/cats but again I caution how much we do. As I find this league is pretty much set (with the above changes included). We are adding Elite 8 Playoffs, adjusting some minor rules and adding a stat/cat package but has more to do with "fantasy" then x's & o's. The suggestion of getting GWG is a valued point as in the past this has been a topic, adding per say SOG would again be adding a "fantasy scouting stat" into are league.
Again I know for some we are "JK"ing around, but the above will be voted on at the draft...Goalies, New Stats, and if we feel as a group to discuss SOG then so be it..And as Mr.Rack mention this would all come into play all at once then its set & locked.

Don't mean to get all gay on ya Commish (although you would probably like that) but you can't just make rules up.
We do have a rule in the rule book about making changes to the league, and I don't see "Cause the Commish says so" in the rules. So get your shit together, follow the rules that you actually wrote and let's improve the SFHL together

If we can vote in the new voting methods, we should vote Coach in as the new Commish.
Coach for Commish!
