In this thread we look at the 2009 Draft. Prospects have lots of hype when drafted and have gms dreaming they netted the next future all-star. Here we look back at all "prospects" drafted that year. Enjoy and see how your team was graded.
Grading system works base on how those players have perform in the SFHL.Teams were also rank on devoplement of those players and if they are still with the organzation.
*OP
PENS (A+)
Kris Versteeg, Josh Bailey, Eric Tangradi, Jordan Eberle, Zack Boychuk
Beaton did a great job locating some top notch talent, unsure of the draft position these players were taken but noneless great work. Eberle is a class act first liner + Versteeg another No.1B fwd. Bailey isnt a first rounder but is solid L3. Tangradi could still be a top 6 fwd. Question mark on Boychuk whom I had as B+ prospect not so long ago.
Bruins (mikeyb) (B-)
Cory Schneider, Scott Glennie, Magnus Parajarvi-Svensson, Jonas Gustavsson*
Buchs did a good job in grabbing one of the up and comers in net. Glennie looks like he could still be a top 6 fwd. Magnus went through somphmore season but looks like a good 3rd liner movin forward. Only reason he gets a B- is of goaltender Schneider.
Leafs (A)
1/13. James Neal, 1/15. OScar Moller, 2/22. Jakub Markestrom
Kooch landed the top LW 40 goal scorer, Neal is one of the best and is getting close to elite status. No Moller's here? Markerstrom is a blue-chip prospect that looks like a solid #1 in due time.
Philly (B)
2/20. Erik Karlsson, 3/35. Jordan Shrogder
Murman & the flyers found a gem in Karlsson...He is the top fantasy d-men and looks to be in the 60+ range for many years to come. BUT he no longer is with the flyers (ouchie)...Schroeder is a B- prospect could be top 6 but looks more like he will fill in on the 3rd line. Mur has a elite talent player(that he drafted 20th overall) but with no other players this hurts his teams overall grade...
North Stars (PAT) (C-)
1/4. Brian Elliott, 2/19. Evengu Grachov, 3/34. Thomas McCoullum, 6/86. John Curry*
one only has to look at the above drafted players to see why this gm got fired and lost his city an sfhl franchise. Yes Elliott was allstar this season but needs to show more and with only playing 38 games isnt at the level as other No.1 goalies are. Grachov hasnt done anything worth noting....McCoullum is a long term propect that might not even see the AHL full-time.. and yah didnt do any good with another goalie in Curry.
AVS (B-)
2/17. Artem Anisimov, 3/32. Torrey Mitchell, 4/42. Brandon Sutter, 1/14. Corey Crawford*
f**k**g Swat and his dam goaltending luck. Picking up Crawford in the UFA as overager paid off as this is a 30 game winner. But has issues in everything other cat/stat. Anismov to me is a good L3, as well Brandon Sutter whom can fill the net and also be a good 3C or a poor mans 2C.
Yotes (A)
1/1. John Tavares, 2/16. Cal Clutterbuck, 3/31. Wayne Simmonds
Duster pick 1st overall JT whom is starting to show that allstar talent in the pts catogory. Clutterbuck at the time looked like a okay pick but with a player that can get you 30pts and amass 100pims teams are always looking for that type of player. Knight Train had awesome season and looks to be a solid No.2 RW, he is one of those fantasy pwr fwds 50 pt area, 100+ pims and ppp ..Great work Chadder just need to keep moving up those standings not down..as it shows your scouting department can still find some good gems in the later rounds.
Blackhawks (A++)
1/2. Matt Duchene, 2/24. Tyler Meyers, 2/25. John Carlson, 2/28. Nazem Kadri, 2/29. Zack Kassion, 4/47. MIchael Grabner
Whats there to say Melcher did very well in the 09 draft. Look at the second rounders, all players have that "blue-chip" tag attach to them when they got drafted. BUT it doesnt help the hawks that they have given up this great young players in trades as there's only two players left in the organzation. Just look at the names and you can tell why he got the highest grade! well done melcher...
Jets (B-)
2/18. Alex Goligoski
Alex is a good No.3-4 Dmen with some adding some goals from the point.
Habs (B+)
1/8. Jamie Benn, 2/23. Kyle Beach, 2/27. Dmitry Kulikov ,3/37. Kevin Sahtternkirk, 3/38. Daivd Rundblad, 3/39. Yannik Weber, 7/99. Jason Garrison*, 7/100. Ben Lovejoy*
It was the year of the D-MEN for the Habs Scouting Department. Virgo and Timmins grab some good A Talent on the back end. Benn is a pure goal scorer and only looks to be going up. Boom Boom Garrison remember folks was drafted 99th, just shows yah its not were but how much you want it plus its always good to have a great development system like the Canadiens... ;D
Oilers (A+)
1/5 - Blake Wheeler, 1/9 - TJ Oshie, 1/10 - Evander Kane, 4/48 - Ryan Shoa,1/8 - Matt Gilroy*, 4/47 - Jeff Drouins-Deslauriers
It only took 5 season and three nhl teams but Wheeler is a dealer...He is just one of the young fwds grasser drafted so well in the first round in 09. Oshie and Kane both are great L1's and are only going to get better. Shoa is a checking centre that might get into the ranks. Gilroy was a big "free agent" player but really it was more hype then play.
When you have three players that can reach close to the 60pt mark and add other stats thats huge and relfects the great job done in oil country.
Wings (C)
30 - BJ Crombeen
This was the days when the wings were cup contenders and dealt there picks.
HFD Whalers (B-)
1/7 Victor Hedman, 3/36 Ryan Ellis, 3/41 Tyler Bozak
Hedman is going to be a great NHL but I dont think that will translate into a great SFHL. He is a best top 4, Ellis could be a great ppp boy and could lead the backend with goals in time . Bozak is 3C...
Kings (D)
1/12 M. Frolik, 3/46 Drayson Bowman
ouchie my bum says the kings...Baby Jagr is at best depth/farm player and Bowman still really hasnt crack the lineup he could be in top 9. The Kings need a better draft team when you look at the crap they pick in 09. hahah
Flamers (A+)
JON QUICK, MATT HUNWICK, BRAYDEN SCHENN, ADAM PARDY*, ALEX SULZER*, ANTTI NIEM*
Holy thats a some great goaltenders...Jase did well to grab Jonathan Swift man that guy is quick and so was Botts in trading the Franshise goalie..which are hard to find... Hunwick was injured most this season but has showen he's a good depth dmen, Schenn is a A grade prospect thats looks like he could have a breakout season in 12-13. The Antti Niem was overager and has shown that hes a good No.1- starter which all teams are always looking for....
Qty vs Quality
1. A++ = ELITE OR ALLSTARS
2. A+ = IMPACT PLAYERS
3. A = FIRST LINERS, NO1-2 DMEN
4. B+ = GOOD PLAYERS
5. B = GOOD TOP 6 / TOP 4
6. B- = SOMEONE SAVED YAH FROM C
7. C+ = UM YAH OKAY BUT NOTHING THERE IN TERMs OF TALENT
8. C = AVG / DEPTH PLAYERS
9 C- = GO LIVE IN TARA
10 D = FAIL
