With rumours swirling over the past few days, the tornado was come to an end with a deal in place. Martin Brodeur is packing his bags and moving on.
The Edmonton Oilers have dealt Brodeur (along with $2mill in cap relief) and Brenden Morrow to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for goaltender Jimmy Howard, Guillame Latendresse and the Leafs 5th round entry this season (55th overall).
We will await league approval on the deal but here is the break down:
Brodeur - 5.2 (3.2 after cap relief) and Morrow - 4.1 for Howard - .717, Latendresse - 2.5, and the 55th overall entry pick of this season belonging to the Leafs in round 5.

We thought there may had been a ruling about that... but I was looking for it on the www.saugeenfantasyhockeyleague.com website and saw the Burke ruling but it didn't say anything about only during the season so we went ahead with it for our deal. I personally don't think it matters, but if we keep it in the rules we can just agree on principle until draft day. Your choice commish!

The ruling I read is as follows: 3)Brian Burke Salary Rule, requiring when deadling salaries teams must have a minimim of 500k of that players salary. The 500K increments should apply to the team TRADING the player, with the team AQUIRING the player picking up the remainder of the salary.
That being said, I am not saying you're wrong Virgs! Just what I read that's all.

I didn't realize this rule existed. I don't think it should... in fact it is a great way for teams to be able to move higher priced players before submitting their protected list. There's no reason not to be able to trade salary in the off-season - I guess the only stipulation should be that the player has a signed contract for the upcoming season. (ie can't trade Bobby Ryan and $X of his potential salary) Approve the deal commish, and toss the old rulebook!

Yah, I agree with what Rack said. They have to have a salary before you can say you will pay any of it.
