The Pittsburgh Penguins and Minnesota North Stars have come together to make another trade but this time Pittsburgh's GM Mark Beaton knows he wasn't "robbed"
To Pittsburgh: Joni Pitkanen 1 mill (North Stars eating 3 mill of 4 mill)/ 1 way Mark Giordano - .892K/ 1 way
To North Stars: Carlo Colaiacovo - 1.283M/ 1 way Jay McKee - 800K/ 2 way 4th UFA (HFD) '10
Penguins insert Giordano and Pitkanen right into the lineup. Total Cap Hit: 61.517M
North Stars roster moves to come
Waiting League Approval

While I'm sure that makes a bit of sense, I don't see such a clause listed in the rule book under the transactions or waiver wire sections.

I discussed this with the commish earlier in the season. I don't know the official line on this, but in my opinion: 1. A 1 way player who is in the minors can be traded to another team, and put on that teams active roster without going through re-entry waivers. 2. A 1 way player who is on an active roster, if traded to another team, cannot go straight to that new team's farm team without first going through waivers.
Make sense? I think we should be able to trade a guy who has cleared waivers, then become of value to another team. However, we can't do the reverse. Otherwise, 2 teams could trade for one another's big salary busts, and hide them in the minors without going through waivers. Not cool.
In sum, I feel that this trade can happen. We need to await an official word from the commish though.

we trade prospects from our farm all the time, so a guy on a farm with a 1 way contract shouldnt make the difference. I always assumed that if i acquire a player regardless if he is on farm or not i have the right to put him wherever i want

I will let the commish give the final word, but I do think what Kooch said is correct. As a one-way player in the farm I don't think he can go straight on to the Penguins active roster without passing through re-entry - but again, Virgs will have to answer that one.

Jes, you contradict yourself in your two messages. In the first one you say: " A 1 way player who is in the minors can be traded to another team, and put on that teams active roster without going through re-entry waivers."
Then go on to say: "but I do think what Kooch said is correct. As a one-way player in the farm I don't think he can go straight on to the Penguins active roster without passing through re-entry"
Did you miss a word in one of those? I'm confused.
I see value in having to clear re-entry, however as it is not explicitly stated in any rule book that a player has to clear before being traded, I don't think this one should be held up.

pat, one of those posts was by rack..... and another by jess..... two different posts
agreed..... it is not mentioned in the rule book "specifically", however, this may be an error and just missed..... as jess and rack have said, we will have to wait on Virgs final word...... this trade is not going to make or break someone's season, so waiting a bit longer will not hurt anyone. peace

Patrice, from the looks of it you read Rack's comments and thought they were mine.
And after reading his comments - his wording sounds appropriate on it actually. It would work much better that way - but league rulings may not be that way for this season at least. Good luck to you both!

Alright I will need to Tag this Thread so I can put a better ruling in the book
There isnt a real ruling on this, something that goes with a league that is 3yrs old. Rack hits the nail on the head a few times
APPROVE by the COMMISH
It goes this way had Mark decide to put Pitkanen into the minors then and only then he would have to PASS WAIVERS...since Pitkanen did pass waivers and was inserted into the North Stars Farm System he didnt need to be callup before being traded....as rack pointed out your not hiding contracts this season or for next..........its so goes with the NHL they dont have too callup a player to trade him
fuckin leafs trade know thats a trade...shit
