The Edmonton Oilers and Boston Bruins have come to an agreement which will see G Mikka Kipprusoff, with $4million relief in the 2009-10 season, head to the Oilers while G Steve Mason, Detroit's 3rd round entry in 2010, Edmonton's 1st UFA in 2010 and Edmonton's 1st entry in 2011 move to Boston.
The Oilers have high hopes for their newly acquired backstopper, as the lack of goaltending stats from Mason were not allowing them to advance further up the rankings.
The Bruins take the 2009 Calder Trophy winner in Mason and add him to an already steady flow of youthful targets including Tuuka Rask and Jonas Gustavsson. They will also look to improve their future with the three picks sent over in the deal.
The Oilers new cap hit is $56.103, with the $4 million in relief from the Bruins.
To make the move happen, Boston is sending C Chris Kelly (2.125, 2-way) to the farm and recalling C Patrice Bergeron (4.75, 1-way) off the IR.
Along with Kipper's $4 mill and Mason's .821, the Bruins' new cap hit is $57.228.
Trade has been sent to Boston, but awaiting approval from head office before it will be accepted.
