New Off-Season Proposal

Every year there is more and more action on the board earlier and earlier in the summer. The 10-12 of us who are very active during the season are all on here it seems daily now these days. Everyone's talking trades...

Commish, it's time to radically change the off-season schedule.

I understand why the summer shutdown period was created, so that guys could take some time away from the pool and not feel like they're missing out on deals etc. However it's turned out that the guys that are taking the summer off are the same guys who take the winter off, so really nobody's missing out on anything they wouldn't have had interest in during the season anyway.

The NHL calms down personnel wise during the playoffs, but as soon as the cup is raised, there's deals, then RFA/UFA signings, the draft, then boom July 1 hits and it's on.

I'd like to propose that the SFHL trade freeze runs from the end of the NHL reg season to the end of the NHL playoffs. As soon as Zetterberg lifts the cup in 2013, the SFHL off-season begins, and trades are a go. For this year, let's call aug 1 the start date, gives the boys some time to get their ducks in a row.

If the majority supports this, and I'm sure those of us on the board these days do, lets get it done! Who's with me??

Greetings Sports Fans;

I have taken time out of my busy schedule to read this new off-season proposal and the comments below. Rack my count has 8 gms responding with a YES to move up the SFHL off-season and I check there has been 11 members that have access the site in the past 24hrs.
So you are correct there is that appetite for hockey 24/7. Yes we have already pushed up the DRAFT LOTTERY this season. IF passed; teams/gms that aren't really 24/7gms or wknd warriors will not be penalize with the new participation rule. This will only reflect in-season and player/team deadlines.


BUT, the League(COMMISH OFFICE) is also asking then a few things in return. General Managers then need to do some house keeping of there own in that I would like to see "Team Hockey Ops Boards" up to date (players & picks)and boards/threads cleanup. As well League Office & Central Registry will need to update the draft board 2012 & 2013. Lastly if we push up the off-season when do (CBA) Rules & Regs amendments come into play/vote as well franchise issues if there are any as well this season is a new cba for the NHL as we base are league off the coolest game on earth we need to setup safe guards (mainly salary cap ceiling and floor).

RACK & CO. as of right now are off-season start time is mid-august. I do agree that seems the vast majority of us are sitting on are hands waiting to make a deal. I am saying that we can look at AUGUST 1st for 2012 to start the off-season. As well look into next season starting ealier. My view is we close down ranks at season end. Playoffs keep ppl busy then wait for the draft/july 1st before starting are Off-season. If we have a set date then teams/gms and the league can make sure everything is good to go and given the green light!! Why not wait that extra week after the cup is raise to start are league back up. Then we get to see the nhl draft first (picks/trades) then start er up...........So really we are looking at 3months more like 2-1/2 months off....

alright dudes, iam pretty tied up this wknd with my gal (pic below) ....but wanted to see if your all game to start the off-season Aug1st this season 2012-13. Then if you want to vote on 2013-14 and beyond to starting the off-season ealier then are alotted timeframe of Mid-Aug (jr/jv bdays)....the dates I seen throwing around are

Mid- June (after the cup)
End -June (after the draft)
July 2nd ( me idea - so that gets the nhl draft done and the start of free agency) seems good to me and nothing should be on July 1st (OH CANADA)

Commish JV, as it seems we will have 85% of gms in favour as we seem to see them on the board....no post but hopefully there doing something like reading that great posting on the 09 draft man that was good....pump up the tires and let roar

agreed! i like this idea as well! but can phaneuf be the one to raise the cup? please? for fuck shakes, i cheer for the leafs, bills, raps, jays, ti-cats, hotspurs , no one ever wins, not even the hartford whalers, im almost over the edge!
