The St. Louis Blues and the Vancouver Canucks have come together on their first deal together of the year. Here's how it shakes out:
To Van:
M. Lucic (4.083, 1 way)
To: STL
D. Brassard - (3.2, 1 way) T. Zajac - (3.888, 1 way) 1st Entry 2012 (EDM) 2nd Entry 2012 (MTL)
Canucks Roster Moves:
V. Sobotka (1.3, 2 way, 2nd CU) called up to fill empty roster spot.
Canucks new cap: 61.038
Before trade approval, Bubba will put Brassard into his line-up, put Zajac on the IR, and post his new cap hit.

just to expidite the process i'll post the Blues moves as they are straight forward and do not require decision making.
Blues place Zajac on IR D. Brassard (3.2, 1 way) inserted to Blues lineup.
Blues new cap 66. 988
Seeking approval...

Negative. Not so straight forward. Zajac cant go directly to the IR. he has to go on the roster first, and someone has to be sent down to accommodate him. Thems the rules.

Not trying to be a jackass here, but i think this is a good trade. Looking through the rule book and all it states is that "Players on the IR cannot be traded." I removed Zajac from the IR on my end and the trade was made within salary cap limits. What happens to that player after the deal is made is post trade. Perhaps this needs to be clarified in the rule book. To site another deal, in the Flyers / Pens deal when JVR was sent to the Pens, the deal was held up as JVR first had to be taken off IR by Mur before approval (just as I took Zajac off IR before the deal). The trade was then approved by the Wings and the Pens directly put JVR on the IR. Here were Mark's roster moves: Pens moves Matt Hacket called up to replace Smith (900K) Johnny boychuk called up to replace Bergeron (1.875) JVR placed on the IR with a concussion total cap hit: 65.734 This was considered a good deal. I should have been a lawyer.

Touché, jackass. Don't know why this isn't anywhere in the rulebook (it should be, Commish please add) but that's how we've always ran things. The JVR situation was a clear error by the Wings GM in approving it... That being said, since it's not an official rule, and since the blues GM may not bee back on for weeks, I retract my un-approval and say this should go through. Obviously the reason for the rule is so teams can't load up on players on the IR with big salaries and hide them there or get jammed with the cap when they're healthy.

if thats the case then Melcher should have Malkin right now...trade was denied because he had to put him on active roster last year

hahaha. i'll take it danno!
I understand that the rule should be more clear in the book on this one. I didn't clue in that the rule was in place for those reasons - in our deal, there we're no salary cap implications (even if Zajac goes in to the line-up, he's easily made to fit under the cap). I'm really just trying to expidite the approval process on this one. Commish, if you want me to wait and have Mitch post Zajac to his roster, I'm fine with that. Not like I'm making a run at things here.

Yah sorry guys not sure why it wasnt in the Rule Book - (website) We are working at some clerical errors on this matter at HeadOffice plus the Commish office is involved.....It was "always a rule when dealing with players on the IR"
good work rack in the wordy thats what it is as players on the IR dont count towards the cap....this makes it harder as we have the 7DAY IR and sometimes teams/headoffice forget too look at this thread...
COMMISH APPROVE Mitch - places Zajac & Brassard onto roster =70.876M Assign: R.Vrbata (i know) 3M = 67.876M only guy with a 2way contract with $$$ then place Zajac 3.888M IR <63.988> callup (1) R.Vrbara 3M 2way and assign Gravehev n/a-prospect 66.988M cap hit blues commish will make roster moves after my f**k**g lunch

i dont really see why theres an issue with this anyways...once said player is off the IR, if he's a one way he has to be inserted into the lineup anyways and any call ups that were used to fill him dont use up any 'call ups'...just my thought...kind of just a stupid rule to make more useless posts...

agreed with Mur-man,
Injury Call-ups don't count. Should be changed in the rule book...
